What is a Mental Health Counselor & Therapist?

Counseling is a type of applied psychology that focuses on helping people resolve emotional, behavioral or social problems arising from various life situations. This could include issues at the workplace, school or college, and conflict within the family.

Counseling uses various structured processes, through directive or non-directive guidance, to assist the person in making rational decisions. Counseling work is completely confidential.

Our Mental Health Counselors & Therapists Team

Mental Health Counselors can have very varied lengths of specialized training, from a year long intensive training to a few months by correspondence. A counselor is trained in the art of listening and has skills to help a person analyze their problems and find a solution. Counselors deal with various issues that are as broad and varied.

If the counselor observes that counseling isn’t addressing the person’s needs because the underlying condition is of a severity that may need other interventions. The provider may refer the person to a mental health expert that utilizes a different approach for diagnosis, treatment, therapy, or medication, as the case may be.

Counseling at Morgan Mental Health Group, LLC focuses on the following:

  • Resolving normal, moderate and severe issues arising due to life events and other stressors
  • Understanding the thought process, beliefs, and emotions, which in turn lead to action
  • Giving importance to current events and past events
  • Developing creativity, self-expression, assertiveness for one’s own needs
  • Improving conscious, rational thinking, and emphasizing a positive response to life situations

Counselors & Therapist Services

Counseling Services

Mental health counselors can help treat mental health crises and other concerns, such as relationship problems or bereavement. They do this by providing people with a space to explore their feelings and by teaching them beneficial skills and coping strategies. Counselors may also specialize in specific conditions, traumatic experiences, or addictions.

Therapy Services

Psychotherapy, also known as “talk therapy,” is when a person speaks with a trained therapist in a safe and confidential environment to explore and understand feelings and behaviors and gain coping skills.

During individual therapy sessions, the conversation is often led by the therapist and can touch on topics such as past or current problems, experiences, thoughts, feelings or relationships experienced by the person while the therapist helps make connections and provide insight.
