What is a Family Nurse Practitioner?

Family nurse practitioners, or FNPs, are highly educated registered nurses who have completed graduate-level or doctorate-level continuing education in nursing. With their extensive education and training, they hold either a master’s degree or a doctorate in nursing, and can provide many of the same essential healthcare services as doctors – from examination to diagnosis, treatment plans, and prescription of medication.

But that’s not all – family nurse practitioners also have a unique focus on health promotion and health education, which allows them to provide exceptional counseling and support for patients in improving their overall wellbeing. Through these efforts, FNPs play a significant role in the healthcare system and can provide expert care for individuals and families alike, regardless of age, gender, or socioeconomic background. From newborns to elderly patients, there’s no one that an FNP cannot provide high-quality care to!

Family Nurse Practitioner Services

Family Nurse Practitioner may perform physical exams; order or perform diagnostic tests and procedures,  prescribe needed medications; develop treatment plans; diagnose and and treat acute and chronic illnesses, conditions and injuries that fall under primary care. They may also teach their patients how to develop healthy lifestyles to promote health and prevent disease. FNP’s provide the following services.

Working independently our FNP’s provide

  • Providing primary health care with an emphasis on preventative care
