My Approach to Helping

Life can be beautiful. It can also be painful, confusing, overwhelming, and painful. Sara believes that counseling helps us to explore our thoughts and feelings with someone else – to understand ourselves better and grow in the process. This growth can promote self-compassion, self-acceptance, and self-love. Some of Sara’s experience centers on working with those who are experiencing depression, anxiety, loss, body-related issues, low self-image, and issues surrounding sex.

Modes and types of mental health care are as varied as the individuals who seek therapeutic support. Therapy Approaches

Psychotherapy, also referred to as talk therapy, psycho-social therapy, counseling, or, simply, therapy, is the primary method for treating mental health problems by talking with a mental health provider. The goal is the help an individual better understand their mental health and teach strategies and tools that manage unhealthy thoughts and behaviors.

While there are many approaches to psychotherapy, there is no single approach that works for everyone. A  therapist may use a blended approach, sampling techniques from several different types of psychotherapy. The kind of psychotherapy a person receives depends on his or her own unique needs.

Screenings, Assessments & Evaluations

Mental health determination tools are used throughout the therapeutic process to determine whether someone could benefit from seeking professional mental health treatment, describe and diagnose problems, increase knowledge, insight and understanding. These tools aid both the patient and professional in creating or modifying treatment plans and measuring progress during the treatment.

Mental Health Screenings are informal symptom checks.
Typically checklists or short questionnaires that ask people to consider if they experience a given symptom and answer yes or no.

Behavioral Health Assessments can be informal or formal

They give a professional insight into a person’s emotional state. It also looks at how they think, reason and remember.
