Mental Health Crisis

Mental health problems range from the worries we all experience as part of everyday life to serious long-term conditions. A mental health crisis is a difficult life situation where a person’s coping strategies do not work. People in crisis feel helpless and distressed, they feel like they are loosing control over their life.

One of the most common signs of mental health crisis is a clear and abrupt change in behavior. During  a mental health crisis people may experience various symptoms such as anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, alcohol or substance abuse, self-injury and suicidal thoughts. Each person’s ability to cope with difficult life situations varies significantly, some may only experience a few symptoms, while others may need more help and time to recover. Mental health concerns or crises are experienced by people of all ages, cultures, and socioeconomic conditions, and may or may not be related to a specific mental disorder or illness.
