While there are many indicators of a poor mental health, the following five signs seem to be prevalent in most cases. Mental Health screenings, assessments and/or evaluations are often recommended by medical and therapy professionals when people experience a combination of the following symptoms for an extended period of time. Ignoring mental health symptoms can result in a mental health crisis or sadly, the loss of life through suicide. 

• Extremely high or low moods – Medical professionals and licensed therapists use psychological testing and assessment tools when people have been suffering from extremely high or low moods for more than a few weeks.
• Excessive fear, worry, or anxiety – According to the American Psychological Association, excessive fear, worry, and anxiety are signs of larger mental health issues when this goes on for a period of more than two weeks.
• Social withdrawal – Distancing yourself from family and friends is often seen as a sign that psychological testing or a mental health assessment is needed to determine the underlying cause of withdrawal. People who experience serious mental health issues like depression symptoms often withdraw from friends, family, and all other social settings.
• Changes in eating or sleeping patterns – When friends, family, and your medical provider notice a marked change in your eating and sleeping patterns, they may recommend psychological testing to get to the root cause of the issues. Psychological evaluations serve the purpose of revealing hidden emotional and psychological issues that may contribute to this withdrawal. People are often referred for psychological testing when there is a drastic change in their behavior or appearance.
• Excessive sadness or irritability – When excessive sadness or irritability becomes a way of life it is up to psychologists to determine what the root cause of the issues is. Psychological evaluations serve as a bridge between the unconscious and conscious mind and can reveal underlying issues in a mental health assessment or psychological evaluation.
