Crisis Warning Signs

mental health crisis may range from the worries we all experience as part of everyday life to serious long-term conditions. Some examples of mental health crises include anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, alcohol or substance abuse, self-injury and suicidal thoughts. Mental health crises are experienced by people of all ages, cultures, and socioeconomic conditions, and may or may not be related to a specific mental disorder or illness.

There is no one indicator that a person is experiencing a mental health crisis and symptoms vary depending on the crisis and individual, but here some signs to look for:

  • Thoughts of suicide
  • Alcohol or substance abuse
  • Confused thinking and trouble concentrating
  • Strong bursts of anger, frustration, irritability or recklessness
